Bacsactive-IP Getting Started Guide

Our software is simple to install and easy to use, making your switch to Bacsactive-IP quick and hassle-free.  Here's how you do it, in 5 effortless steps:

  1. Contact your bank
    First call your bank to find out if you are eligible for a Bacs Service User Number (SUN) either as a direct or indirect submitter.

  2. Choose the right service
    Then either call us on 0845 120 8050, or email sales.fsc@fundtech.com and one of our experiences sales team will recommend the best value Bacsactive-IP solution for your needs. They will need to know about your transaction volumes, number of users and how many PCs you want to access the system from.

  3. See a demo
    If you want to see Bacsactive-IP in action before making your decision, view our flash demo or schedule an online conferencing demo to get the complete tour. The full demo takes about 30 minutes.

  4. Place your order
    Once you have chosen your solution, just call 0845 120 8050 or email sales.fsc@fundtech.com to place your order. A member of our Customer Support team will then contact you to arrange an installation.

  5. Installation
    Installations are carried out onsite by trained engineers. Web Enterprise and Business installs typically take about an hour. Enterprise installs may take a day or longer, depending on project complexity. We can help you choose the best solution for your organisation.

Bacs FAQ

How do I connect to Bacs?
You connect to Bacs using a secure connection using the HTTPS protocol with additional security provided by Smart Card signatures.

What is an Originator?
An Originator is someone with access to Bacs software sending transactions to the Bank.

What is a Direct Credit?
A Direct Credit is a transaction paying funds from the Originator’s account to another, for example a payroll transaction.

What is a Direct Debit?

A Direct Debit is a transaction to collect funds from one account and pay them into the Originators bank account, for example collecting payment for a magazine subscription.

What are Direct and Indirect Submitters?

A Direct Submitter owns their own Bacs software and sends transactions directly to the Bank. An Indirect Submitter does not own their own Bacs software and send transactions to the bank via a third party called a Bacs Bureau.

What is a Bacs Bureau?

A Bacs Bureau is an organisation that sends Bacs transactions to the Bank on behalf of other organisations.

Is it Secure?
Yes. Bacsactive-IP uses a Bacs approved username and password system to initially access the software, highly adaptable permissions allow you to only allow the staff you choose to access certain functions and no transactions can be sent to the Bank without access to a Bacs Smart Card and PIN.

What are Smart Cards?
Smart Cards are very similar to the Chip and PIN bank cards many of us use in everyday life. Smart Cards are just as secure as bank cards and must be used whenever you communicate with Bacs via our software.

What is a SUN?
A SUN or Service User Number is a unique six digit number used to identify an organisation to Bacs, for example 123456.

What is a BUN?
A BUN or Bureau User Number is a unique five digit number prefixed by a ‘B’ used to identify a Bureau organisation to Bacs, for example B12345.

How many users can we have?

A typical installation has 2 Signing Users, 3 Non Signing Users and 1 Administrator, which is included in the cost.  However,  you can add as many users as you like.

What is a Paperless Direct Debit?
Paperless Direct Debit is a method of setting up a Direct Debit Instruction on an account, allowing you to collect monies from that account, without sending physical paperwork to the bank saving you time and money.
